Decommissioning of 2G- and 3G-networks

As a result of the development of new communication technologies (such as 4G, 5G and IoT – Internet of Things) older solutions such as 2G and 3G will not be maintained by the telecom operators in the near future. There is currently an ongoing technology shift from 2G/3G to 4G, 5G which will lead to the decommissioning of the 2G and 3G networks.

The largest telecom operators in Sweden judge that the 2G networks will be decommissioned by the end of 2025 and they have already started the shutdown of the 3G networks.

At NODA we continuously work with development to future-proof our solutions and we can already provide alternatives based on 4G (LTE) and LoRa WAN.

If you have NODA solutions based on 2G or 3G, we will assist you to implement alternative solutions. More information about this will be communicated in due time.

The following solutions from NODA are using 2G or 3G:

Collection units for room sensors (wireless Mbus) are using 2G to send data from buildings to NODAs cloud platform.
Communication modules to some of our control units (type NODA IEC) use 3G to communicate data from substations to NODAs cloud platform.

Utvecklingen av nya tekniker för kommunikation (4G, 5G och olika lösningar för IoT – Internet of Things) gör att äldre kommunikationslösningar som 2G och 3G inte längre utvecklas av teleoperatörerna. Det pågår just nu ett teknikskifte från 2G/3G till 4G, 5G som innebär att 2G och 3G-näten kommer att stängas ner.

De största teleoperatörerna i Sverige bedömer att 2G-näten kommer att ha stängts ner till utgången av 2025 och de har redan inlett nedstängningen av 3G-näten.

På NODA arbetar vi kontinuerligt med att framtidssäkra våra lösningar, och vi kan redan idag erbjuda alternativ som baseras på 4G (LTE) samt LoRa WAN.

Vi kommer att hjälpa er som har NODA-lösningar som idag använder 2G eller 3G med alternativ. Mer information om detta kommer att kommuniceras framöver.

Följande befintliga lösningar från NODA använder 2G eller 3G:

Insamlingsenheter för rumsgivare (givare med wireless Mbus) använder 2G för att kommunicera data från insamlingsenheter i byggnader till NODAs molnplattform.
Kommunikationsmoduler till vissa av våra styrenheter (NODA IEC) använder 3G för kommunikation av data från undercentralen till NODAs molnplattform.
